Sandy Beach is known for its large shore break which makes it an excellent spot for bodyboarders and body surfing. On many days it can be extremely dangerous when there is big swell. If in doubt DO NOT go out. This beach has been coined "Back Break Beach" as many people get hurt here. On smaller days it can be a very fun place to try bodyboarding and the bigger days it is fun to just watch from the beach. It is about a 20 minute drive from Waikiki which makes it a popular beach. ​There are lifeguards on duty here at all times, but keep in mind that you need to also pay attention and make sure you are only going in if youʻre comfortable. Lifeguards love when visitors as questions about the conditions, so feel free to go ask them if they think its safe for swimming based on your skill level.
