Yokohama Bay

yo-ko-ha-ma bay or Keawa'ula (ke-ah-va-u-la)

Description

The west side is one of the most beautiful sides of the island with lush green mountain sides and sandy white beaches. Yokohama is a gem on this side of the island as it offers a bit more isolation from some of the touristy spots. The waters tend to be quite calm around here and make for great snorkeling and swimming. Depending on the water clarity you might just see a turtle or two as well. The west side beaches give you a feeling of "local" as it is where many local Hawaiians reside. It is quite normal to see large families bbqʻing and spending time together on the beaches. As is true for anywhere on the island, make sure to be respectful of the Hawaiian culture and locals bringing your Aloha to share. To continue the Hawaiian vibes, head into the town of Waianae to grab some lunch or dinner from one of the many restaurants.

Keawaula means: "the red bay"
