Native Fishpond Restoration

PĀ'AIAU

The Pā‘aiau Fishpond, once cultivated by Native Hawaiians and settlers, was overrun by invasive mangroves after World War II, disrupting its ecosystem. The restoration effort, in collaboration with the Aliʻi Pauahi Hawaiian Civic Club and supported by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, aims to revive this historic pond and its cultural significance.

Forest Restoration

WAIMEA VALLEY

Waimea Valleyʻs program embodies the Hawaiian proverb "ma ka hana, ka ‘ike," which means that learning comes through hands-on experience. These volunteer opportunities are designed to foster deeper connections with the cherished 'āina (land), holona (animals), lā‘au (plants), wai (freshwater), and the traditional practices of Hawaiian culture that we respect and pass on.
