Description

Experience this 2.6-kilometer out-and-back trail near Waianae, Oahu. It's generally regarded as moderately challenging and is a popular spot for hiking, so expect to encounter other enthusiasts along the way. Open year-round, the trail offers timeless beauty, making it a delightful destination at any time.

This hike to the top of Puu O Hulu is relatively short, with many finding that the drive to the location takes longer than the actual hike. Expect a hot and dry ascent to a series of bunkers offering breathtaking views of Nanakuli and Waianae.

Puu O Hulu, nestled between Nanakuli and Ma'ili, is characterized by its distinctive double back resembling a camel's hump, with a water tank nestled in its center. The trail traverses this ridge, offering captivating views of both the ocean side (kai) and the inland side (uka).

While the hike is generally safe, certain sections can become narrow with drop-offs on either side, though they are not particularly hazardous. At the top, you'll find several bunkers, including one painted a striking hot pink! Take your time to savor the 360-degree views; on clear days, you can spot landmarks such as Kaena Point to the west, Mount Kaala to the north, and Kapolei/Campbell Industrial Park to the south.
