Description
Explore this 8.0-kilometer loop trail near Kahuku, Oahu. It's typically considered a moderately challenging route, taking about 2 hours and 35 minutes to complete. This area is highly frequented by hikers, mountain bikers, and runners, so expect to encounter fellow outdoor enthusiasts along the way. The trail remains accessible year-round and offers scenic beauty regardless of the season. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a leash.
The single-track trail segment features numerous roots and uneven terrain, occasionally slippery and overgrown. In contrast, the paved and gravel segments offer relatively smooth passage, even on slight inclines. Parking is available roadside before the Boy Scout Camp, where you'll embark on a 0.6-mile hike along a dirt road to access the trailhead on the left, or continue along the road to the right.
The southern part of the loop, extending west-east past the trailhead, comprises a closed paved road inaccessible to vehicles due to hazardous washed-out sections. On the eastern stretch of the loop, running SE-NW, a gravel road ascends, constituting the steepest and highest part of the loop. Meanwhile, the western section, running SW-NE, consists of a single-track trail.
