Description

For updates on trail closures, the public can visit the Na Ala Hele Trail & Access Program website (https://hawaiitrails.hawaii.gov/trails/#/). Please note that closure days are subject to change without notice. Starting from Waahila State Park, it takes approximately an hour to reach the Kolowalu junction on the left and the ridge summit on the right. The trail is generally well-graded, with some sections showing erosion but not posing extreme danger. Expect windy conditions along this ridge hike, with occasional rock scrambling that is manageable for most hikers. Initially, the hike follows a wide path before ascending gradually. Upon reaching a junction, continue left as the terrain begins to undulate over ridges. While there are rocky sections requiring minor climbing, the overall difficulty remains moderate. Near the summit, enjoy stunning views of Manoa Valley and Palolo Valley. Upon reaching the trail's end, you'll encounter the Kolowalu trail, which offers a steeper descent into the back of Manoa Valley. Beyond the trail's endpoint sign, a path leads to the summit of Mt. Olympus. However, this route is not recommended for novice hikers, as it becomes narrower and includes multiple rope sections for climbing.
